With your help we are able to train leaders living near least-reached communities to multiply disciples.

“When I first moved to this place, there were no Christians here,” Eli said. “Now there are 40 people who have come to know Christ! And we are focused on reaching another village about 30 minutes away where there are no Christians living.”

Eli is a young pastor and training director from Myanmar. He’s one of many who are seeking to spread the light of the Gospel in a dark place. A place where Buddhism and spirit worship permeate all aspects of society. He has moved from his home state to another region to help a cluster of churches train and equip disciple-makers and church planters.

Eli shared recently his joys and challenges. He said, “We had 15 participants in our discipleship-mission training. When we went to the village to share the Gospel, we worked beside the people doing physical labor. Eventually, they believed our testimony and some came to Christ and left Buddhism. We baptized some, but six of the people we baptized were expelled by their parents and their family. One young woman came to Christ but her family—mostly her father—will not allow her to be baptized.”

He and the church planters he’s trained have seen God work despite their difficulties. He said, “God performed a miracle when we did outreach. A woman who had physical issues for 20 years came and we prayed for her. Later she called to tell us God had healed her!”

Eli also talked to a man he met in the first village where he arrived. “He was a drunk,” Eli said, “and he wanted to fight me. But now he is a Christian and my trusted friend. And because of him, many others have come to know Jesus.”

It’s amazing to go from a place with no witness to Christ, to a growing body of believers seeking to reach those who still live in darkness. What a joy to hear Eli’s story and to know that he’s only one of so many carrying on the Great Commission in Myanmar, and around the world!

Global Disciples Canada is a Christian mission organization that trains local leaders living near least-reached communities to multiply disciples for Christ. One-third of our world hasn’t heard the Good News of Jesus. Yet. Global Disciples refers to these as “least-reached” people, and fewer than 10% of all missionaries work among these groups. We live in a time where many of these people are within reach of a local church. Through our simple and effective training and coaching strategy, believers share the Gospel in their own nations and cultures. Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations,” and we’re committed to doing just that. If you are looking for a Christian mission organization to partner with to become a better disciple and help make disciples, connect with us today!

As Global Disciples, we want to see people around the world have the opportunity to choose and follow Jesus Christ. So we get excited when local churches in other countries catch the vision for reaching those still without the Gospel in their own region.

Cho is a church leader in Myanmar—or Burma—who shares our vision. His church is focused on reaching the Buddhist population in a developing city close to them.

“Our hearts were touched by the Holy Spirit,” Cho reported, “and our vision is to reach these people. Their spiritual eyes are blind and they live in a city that has a very dark spirit.”

With the help of Global Disciples, Cho has started a discipleship-mission training program. During the training, he saw the Holy Spirit work in the lives of those who participated. They found their spiritual lives transformed and renewed. Cho said, “They committed their whole lives to Jesus, to share the Good News in least-reached areas.”

For their outreach, Cho and these young disciple-makers went to the city they were concerned about. They shared the Gospel in the local market and the Buddhist temple. He reported, “We talked to families, spoke with women and children, and taught them songs and Bible stories.”

Some people objected, including the local chief. Cho said, “They called us into their office and warned us not to preach anymore. But we went out with our group and kept sharing the Gospel!”

As a result, two new churches were planted and 17 new believers were added. Cho was also rejoicing, saying “This has transformed our church people—they now value the spiritual lives of unreached people, and they are eager and committed to reaching them with the Good News of Jesus.”

Catching the vision, training and sending out workers for the spiritual harvest, and then multiplying new followers of Jesus Christ. That’s exactly what we want to see as Global Disciples!

“God sent us to the right place, where there is no Gospel of Christ,” Sanda reported from Myanmar.

He serves as training director for a cluster of churches, equipping new disciple-makers to go and share the Gospel with the millions of least-reached people in their country.

In his training report, Sanda talked about the impact of those he trained. “They were so excited to receive the teaching on discipleship, and they learned a lot that will help them live as disciples of Jesus. Several said they thought being a Christian was quite enough—until they saw they could do God’s assignment to make disciples.”

The new disciple-makers were up to the task. So Sanda took them for outreach, and they went to a remote village in their province.

As he said, this region had never heard the Good News of Jesus, and the people were strong Buddhists. Sanda wrote, “They only knew and practiced the beliefs of Buddhism as instructed by the monks, without any assurance of eternal life. We bore a burden for their souls, and we were aware of their needs.”

Sanda and his team spent time talking with families, and individuals, and finding ways to serve and help them. All the while they were taking every opportunity to talk about Jesus and the eternal life He offers. Sanda said, “It was strange for them to receive us but with the help of the Holy Spirit, we could share the Gospel. And the people were touched by the Word of God.”

As a result, about seven people came to faith in Christ, and they established a home fellowship. While the numbers are few, it represents a huge breakthrough. The light of Jesus Christ is now shining in this remote region of Myanmar.

Without their witness and faithfulness as disciples who make disciples, this community would have been left in spiritual darkness. Praise God for the way He equips, and mobilizes, and sends out people like Sanda and those he’s training to share the Good News of Jesus around the world.

Small beginnings, with a commitment to multiply disciples, usually bring amazing results!

When you know what Jesus has done for you, you can’t keep it to yourself! You want others to experience His transforming work too!

Just ask Eli—a young, dedicated follower of Jesus, sharing the Gospel with his people in Myanmar.

But he wasn’t always like this. Eli grew up with Christian parents but got into trouble as a kid, becoming addicted to drugs and living a life that did not honor God.

Gradually, his life began to turn around, and he decided to go to seminary. But drugs still had a grip on him, and when the seminary found out, Eli was asked to leave.

When Eli finally repented, he was filled with the love of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit. His drug use stopped, and he became a passionate evangelist, going from village to village, sharing the Gospel and discipling new believers.

He took our Global Disciples training and now he directs a discipleship-mission training program to equip disciples to reach the many unreached people in Myanmar.

But Eli doesn’t leave the mission to others. He moves into a village for a time and shares the Gospel, especially with the predominantly Buddhist communities in Myanmar.

God has used him greatly. In several cases, almost the whole village came to know Jesus.

He’s often faced opposition. In one village, when four families gave their lives to follow Jesus, the village elders felt that their Buddhist way of life was being threatened. So, they called Eli to a meeting—and included two local monks, who questioned his influence in their village. The monks and elders decided Eli was no longer welcome and he could expect severe punishment if he ever came back.

Undeterred, Eli moved on to the next village…and the four believing families now go there to be discipled!

Eli has experienced the transforming work of Christ—and he can’t keep it to himself. He’s working faithfully to see as many people as possible have the opportunity to choose and follow Jesus.
