Dead ends, Diversions & Divine Direction

So what do we do when we get a roadblock thrown at us? How can we get divine direction when hit dead ends & diversions in our life? What do we do when something out of the blue means we need to make a course change?

When i’m driving, I hate diversions. I feel like someone somewhere should have warned me that such and such a road was off limits for a bit. Whenever i see a diversion sign like this I’m scrambling trying I’m instantly forced to think of another way of getting to where I need to be!

Divine Direction: Acts 16

One of my favourite redirection stories in the Bible is in Acts 16. A church planter called Paul is trying to figure out where to go to tell people about Jesus next. He tries ….but the Holy Spirit redirected him. Twice!

Maybe you think Gods asking you to do something, you’re fired up for it, you’re keen, but you get some knock backs..Do you give up?

Well Paul didn’t give up! He prayed and The Holy Spirit gave Paul a dream:

“After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them.”

Divine Direction: Proceeding When The Outcome Is Uncertain.

Like Paul, we must learnt to proceed when the outcome in uncertain and trust God to guide us.

What happens next is incredible. Paul follows the guidance of The Holy Spirit and is directed to plant the very first churches in Europe. What looked like inconvenience was actually a redirect from the Holy Spirit. And this redirect led to one of the the most fruitful eras of Pauls ministry

Divine Direction: The Holy Spirit Holds the Future.

The reason I’m talking to you today is because God rerouted Paul from Asia & Bithynia to plant the very first European churches ever. You could say that the reason were is because Paul got an unexpected reroute from the Holy Spirit.

Here are 3 things we can takeaway from Pauls rerouted journey:

The Holy Spirit knows the future & holds the big picture. We see things from ground zero, terra firma, but He is outside of time & does things in His own way at His own time & speed. If we will trust Him with the map & the COMPASS & the ETA and just KEEP MOVING. Paul didn’t stop trying things, he was active he was at it. Friend, keep doing good things that God can get involved with.

The Holy Spirit knows how to speak our language & guide us when we need it

He knows how to speak your language, He knows how to get your attention, & as long as you are listening out for His voice, by praying, reading scripture & asking for His direction, He will speak. trusting Him means learning to enjoy the adventure.

Every time we get a redirect its for greater fruitfulness & greater impact  Dead ends in our lives can be redirections for God to correct our course. Every time we get a redirect its for greater impact & greater fruitfulness. Even a no from The Holy Spirit can be exciting. He’s keeping something FOR you He’s not keeping something FROM You.

Maybe GIVE THANKS for the redirection?! Maybe the Holy Spirit is able to use ALL THINGS, strange things, unfortunate things, unexpected things & even in a redirection you can learn to trust the God who holds the map!

Global Disciples Canada

Global Disciples Canada is a Christian mission organization that trains local leaders living near to reach least-reached communities to multiply disciples for Christ. One-third of our world hasn’t heard the Good News of Jesus. Yet, Global Disciples refers to these as “least-reached” people and fewer than 10% of all missionaries work among these groups. We live in a time where many of these people are within reach of a local church. Through our simple and effective strategy of training and coaching, believers share the Gospel in their own nations and cultures. Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations,” and we’re committed to doing just that. If you are looking for a Christian mission organization to partner with to become a better disciple and help make disciples, connect with us today!
