In Mark 9:14–29, we meet a father who’s desperate. His son is suffering, and the disciples can’t help him. So he turns to Jesus.

What Jesus sees in this man is profound. Despite the man’s fears, Jesus sees the genuineness of his faith. Let’s explore how.

This man had nothing left to lean on—no plan B, no backup.

He wasn’t relying on his strength or past experiences. He put all his hope in Jesus, even with shaky faith.

Jesus didn’t evaluate this man’s faith by how “confident” he sounded—but by his desperate willingness to throw everything on Christ.

This man approached Jesus with reverence.

This man didn’t come with cynicism, anger, or entitlement. He didn’t try to control the outcome. He simply came, trusting Jesus had the power and authority to heal.

True faith begins in worship. It’s not just a posture on Sunday morning—it’s a life lived in trust and surrender.

The man says something unforgettable:

That’s honesty. That’s vulnerability. And that is what real faith is all about.

The man wasn’t pretending to have it all together. He brought his doubts and fears straight to Jesus, and Jesus didn’t rebuke him. He met him with grace.

Jesus blessed his small amount of faith rather than judging him for the mountain of doubt.

This man had already experienced disappointment. The disciples couldn’t heal his son. Others had likely let him down too.

But he didn’t let that keep him from Jesus.

He didn’t give up on God just because God’s people fell short. He moved toward Jesus, not away from Him.

Like Nicodemus, he didn’t let public failure stop private pursuit. His trust wasn’t in people. It was in Jesus.

We often think of faith as mental certainty. But this story shows us something deeper.

The man’s belief came from trust, not the other way around. His faith wasn’t about saying all the right things—it showed up in how he lived, how he prayed, and how he kept coming back to Jesus.

Here’s what Jesus reminded the disciples: faith isn’t about forcing belief. It’s about realizing how desperately we need God.

Prayer and fasting are about relationship, not ritual. They remind us that we’re not in control—and that’s exactly when God moves.

Yes. Absolutely.

In fact, admitting your doubt might be the most faithful thing you can do.

Jesus doesn’t ask for perfect confidence. He asks for honest, humble hearts. And that’s where He meets us—with mercy, not judgment.

Real faith:

If you’re struggling today, you don’t need to “fix” your doubts before coming to Jesus. Bring them with you.
